MASSAGE / BODYWORK
Massage is one of the oldest healing
arts: Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document
its use; the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians
applied forms of massage for many ailments; and Hippocrates
wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction
for joint and circulatory problems. It is the application
of soft-tissue manipulation techniques to the body,
usually intended to reduce stress and fatigue while
improving circulation. Clients may choose from the following
types of massage; therapist can explain the benefits
of each:
- Relaxation
- Connective
- Aromatherapy
- Deep Tissue
- Tissue Trigger Point

Swedish Massage Therapy
Swedish massage therapy can
be very gentle and relaxing. If you've never had massage
before, this is a good one to try first! This is the
most common type of massage therapy. Swedish massage
uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage.
The five basic strokes are effleurage (light touch),
petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping),
compression, and vibration.
Our massage therapists use long
smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on
superficial layers of muscle to improve circulation
and relieve tension throughout your body. The Swedish
massage will leave you feeling simply invigorated and
renewed.
We hope you enjoy the massage,
as we use the highest quality massage lotions and oils.
Our integrative Swedish style work, ranges from light
to firm pressure. This particular massage is designed
to precisely relax muscles, release toxins, and promote
circulation, thereby helping you to purify your lymphatic
system. For a deeper work, consider choosing a deep
tissue massage.

Hot stone massage is a specialty
massage that uses smooth, heated stones. They are often
basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains
heat well. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of
massage.
The stones are placed on specific points along your
spine to improve the flow of energy in your body; the
heat helps tight muscles release.
What to expect during a hot
stone massage:
~ Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes
the stones and heats them in 120 and 150 degree water.
~ The therapist uses traditional massage strokes while
holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist
replaces it with another.
~ The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific
points along your spine, or in the palms of your hand,
or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy
in your body.
~ If you have inflammation or muscle injury, cold stones
are sometimes used.
